Organizational Highlight

Contra Costa ARC is a community service agency founded in 1965 and is now one of the largest nonprofit agencies in the East Bay. Contra Costa ARC’s mission is to enhance and enrich the lives of children and adults with developmental disabilities through services and advocacy. They provide children and adults with significant disabilities the opportunity to live and work in their communities alongside their peers with the greatest possible independence and self-determination.  Contra Costa ARC’s programs serve approximately 700 adults and 450 children each year in settings throughout Contra Costa and Alameda Counties. Our services include:

  • George Miller Centers – provide early intervention, after-school, and activity programs for 450 children, adults, and seniors with severe developmental disabilities.
  • Lynn Center – comprehensive early intervention services for the growing number of children with autism spectrum disorders and other special needs.
  • Commercial Support Services – employment training, placement in jobs, and on-the-job support for adults with developmental disabilities.
  • CARE Parent Network – a one-stop family resource center serving parents of children with disabilities.
  • Community Access and ARC Inroads – programs to help individuals with severe and multiple disabilities participate actively in the community.
  • Good Stuff Thrift Shop – a store that raises funds to support their programs and benefit people with developmental disabilities.
The agency has grown entirely in response to requests from the community who recognize the quality of their services, sound financial management and unwavering commitment to their constituency. They are formally accredited by the national Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities and have maintained accreditation consistently since 1977.
